I find myself getting into habit ruts these days. My brain goes on auto pilot, and I just stick the same ole’ spices in my grocery cart and shuttle on to the next thing on my list. Boring.
That’s why I love monthly subscription clubs. With full-time work and two kids under five, finding time to treat myself is getting harder and harder these days. And I’m a firm believer of the “treat-yo-self” movement. After a hard days work, it’s nice to know you have a little something-something waiting for you.
I had fun test driving Savory Spice’s monthly spice club subscription. A subscriber gets one hand crafted seasoning, one herb or spice and a recipe. The handcrafted spice blends are my favorite! I loved the Black Dust Coffee + Spice Rub made up of: coffee, black pepper, cumin, alderwood smoked salt, brown sugar, cocoa, mustard, coriander and chipotle. This combo is warm and spicy and worked brilliantly in my lentil and kale vegetarian chili. Perfect for the fall season. And as a sleep deprived adult, I love the idea of a coffee spiced blend.
The recipe cards are helpful for spices you may not be familiar with. Get’s the creative wheels spinning, which is always good in the kitchen. Grab a glass of wine and experiment. That’s the fun of spice club.
You can sign up for the 6-month spice tester subscription or the 12-month spice explorer. A cool local perk: I can visit their cute shop on D Street in Downtown Santa Rosa when I run out. I have a few foodies in my family, I may surprise them come Christmas.
